St. Oswald’s Way Countryside Short Walks KIRKWHELPINGTON
Kirkwhelpington is an ancient, attractive old village in unspoilt countryside on the River Wansbeck, with hills and crags to the west and the coastal plain to the east.
The area surrounding the village has been farmed for many centuries, and nearby estates such as Wallington, now owned by the National Trust, show a more managed landscape that was partly created by one of the country’s most famous gardeners, ‘Capability’ Brown.
